Wavecrest Scuba is a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre based near Newquay in Cornwall. One of the aims of its owner, Mark Rayner, is to give each person an experience that will be memorable which is why the group sizes are kept to 6 people per Instructor. Mark and his 2 experienced Instructors have over 20 years experience between them in the underwater world and cater for anyone from the ages of 8 to 80 and either a novice, junior or experienced diver with a variety of courses for those wanting to challenge themselves with courses to suit the needs of the more adventurous.

Based at The Monkey Tree Holiday Park, Wavecrest has its friendly dive shop and opening times are:

Monday to Saturday – 09.30 – 17.00

Sunday – 09.30 – 16.00

For the youngsters (aged 8+) there is the Bubblemaker and Seal Team where the youngsters can experience the fun that can be had with a variety of games in the pool.

For juniors (aged 10-14) there is the Junior Open Water which certifies them down to 12 metres and in Cornwall there is an abundance of life to that depth around the coast’s many dive sites. From 12-14 the juniors can embark on more challenging courses such as the Junior Rescue Diver and Junior Master Scuba Diver giving them a head start in understanding more about the world of scuba diving.

Aged 15+ the courses are aimed at taking you a little deeper and challenging you to push yourself. The Open Water qualifies you to a depth of 18 metres and would allow you to dive anywhere in the world. Advanced open Water takes you to 30 metres and the Rescue Diver prepares you to be of assistance should a problem ever occur. After 50 dives and 5 speciality courses you can become a Master Scuba Diver, the highest non-professional qualification.

For those who want to share the experience and wonder of scuba diving the professional courses from Dive Master through to Instructor (aged 18+) can be taught by Mark with his relaxed but firm teaching style that makes even the professional learning route fun.

All of this could start from what we affectionately call a Discover Scuba where you spend up to an hour in the pool learning the basic skills and familiarise yourself with the scuba gear and can include a short dive in the sea at one of our more popular dive sites followed by a light lunch. To scuba dive in Cornwall is something else and when you dive with Wavecrest we will take you to the dive site we feel is suitable for your level of experience in our fully licensed mini bus and return you to our base at the Monkey Tree Holiday Park.
