Newquay Beach Guide

Run to the sun pictures

People don't just come to Newquay for the Nightlife, the beaches around Newquay are simply among the finest in Western Europe.

Fistral Beach

With loads of sandy beaches to choose from you'll be spoilt for choice. Newquay's natural beaches provide the opportunity to Surf... Swim... Make sand castles... Explore the delights of rock pools... check out the babes and go skinny dipping. Fistral International surf competitions and the best surf in the UK makes Fistral beach the place to be when the sun is shining. Hordes of party people, surfers and babes all lounging around and playing in the sand create an unbelievable atmosphere. Cool tunes, hippys in vans and a huge bar on the sand make this the best beach in Newquay.

  Towan Beach

This is the beach just behind The Walkabout. Its dead busy during the summer months but is very popular with families and old people on sticks! You feel a bit guilty playing football here and are constantly worried about booting a stray toddler 50 meters along the sand! The lack of surf means there is less action on the tottie front but the beach itself is like all in Newquay spotlessly clean.

  Hollywell Bay

Perfect for that romantic walk and cuddle. This beach is beautiful and relatively quiet compared to most in Newquay. Its sunsets are one of the most beautiful in Cornwall.

  Great Western Beach

Reached by a steep slope leading off Cliff Road beside the Great Western Hotel, or at low tide from the right of the Island this beach is sheltered by high cliffs, which also shade the beach in late afternoon. Toilets and refreshments are available and dogs are allowed. Loads of space to play football or rugby because its very quiet compared to the other beaches in Newquay.

  Porth Beach

Level with the road and a car park on the beach mean this small sandy cove is a favourite for those coffin dodgers with walking difficulties or families with pushchairs. Because of this it can get crowded in high season, so get there early! . On Trevelgue Head a pitch and putt course and a small crazy golf can offer great entertainment after a few cans of stella. When the sea is rough the sight of spray shooting high into the air from the blow hole is spectacular (if you've ever seen 'Blue Juice' you will know what we're on about). Toilets and refreshments are available but dogs are not permitted from 1st April to the end of September.

  Tolcarne Beach

This privately owned sandy beach is popular for its rows of beach huts which are available for hire. Reached by a flight of steps down the cliff face from Narrowcliff, or a winding slope at the eastern end of the beach, it is favoured by families and us surfers too. Toilets and refreshments available, but dogs are not permitted.

Watergate Bay

Newquays biggest and most spectacular of beaches is 3 miles out of town on the coast road towards Padstow. Your first glimpse of the bay as you come over the top of the hill is one of the most awesome views in Cornwall. There is loads of parking and access is easy down onto the beach (suitable for the disabled). There is a bar on the beach where you can grab a cold beer. Whilst checking out the sexy surfers. This is one of our favourite spots because it's not overcrowded in the water when the surf is good!

  Crantock Beach

This wide stretch beach is backed by huge sand dunes, offering perfect quiet spots for the new couple... To the right the beach meets the River Gannel estuary so to avoid the resulting currents it is advisable to swim towards the left hand side of this gorgeous bay. One of the cleanest beaches in Newquay. Toilets and refreshments are available and dogs allowed.
